Nonconformity between Cambrian Sawatch Quartzite and underlying Proterozoic Pikes Peak Granite , Colorado.
Nonconformities are a type of unconformity in which the older rock is either intrusive igneous rock (as in this case) or metamorphic rock. In this example, there is nearly 900 million years worth of missing rock record between the 500 million year-old Sawatch Quartzite and the 1.4 billion year old granite!
